What Is a VoIP (Voice over IP)?

A technology that allows you to make and receive voice calls over the internet rather than a traditional analog phone line.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology that converts analog voice signals into digital data packets and transmits them over the internet. This allows businesses to run telephone lines over their existing broadband internet connection, eliminating the need for expensive physical phone lines and hardware.

How VoIP Works

VoIP converts voice audio into digital data packets, routes them over IP networks, and converts them back to analog audio at the destination. This allows calls to bypass traditional copper phone networks entirely, enabling rich features and low costs.

VoIP Benefits

VoIP offers significant savings over traditional landlines, fast scaling (add lines in seconds), mobility (answer office calls on mobile or laptop), and advanced routing features like concurrent call queues and voice-guided menus.

VoIP vs Landlines

While VoIP is cheaper and infinitely more flexible, it depends entirely on a stable internet connection. Traditional landlines are highly reliable during power outages, but lack modern features and are expensive to install and maintain.

How CallClerk Fits In

CallClerk integrates natively with VoIP phone systems. You can easily forward calls from any VoIP provider (like RingCentral, Dialpad, or Zoom Phone) to your CallClerk assistant.
